Radiation is put in the prostate by the doctor using a large hollow needle inserting a thin catherter.

COMPLICATIONS
ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION
Surgery or radiation can destroy the nerves located next near the prostate gland resulting in difficulties with erection.
INCONTINENCE

Men with prostate cancer who experience urinary incontinence may need to use pads for leaking urine.

SURGERY
PRE-OPERATIVE CARE

Physical exam, Electrocardiogram, Complete blood count, Blood coagulation profile, Comprehensive metabolic panel, Urinalysis
Consume clear fluids 24 hours before surgery, water, tea and coffee with no cream or milk.

Ibuprofen, motrin, voltaren and some arthritis medication should be avoided a week before surgery as they can cause bleeding.

If there is a presence of blood in your urine you must increase fluid intake to prevent blood clots forming around catheter.
URINARY TRACT INFECTION

If you develop a urinary tract infection speak to your doctor so that they can provide you with antibiotics.

Prostate cancer is classified as adenocarcinoma. On microscopic examination it indicated glandular patterns.
