Coronavirus
What I've Heard
-
I have seen posts on Facebook referring to it as media hype and nothing to worry about, as well as posts talking about how serious it is
People I know have cancelled trips overseas to prevent themselves from getting the virus, even if the trip is not going to Asia
I personally am not too worried about the virus, and feel it is being slightly blown out of proportion by the media
Newfound Thoughts
Although death rates are much lower than the numbers say due to most cases not being confirmed, the death rate is still far too high among certain demographics
Even though the overall death rate is only about 2%, the fact that the virus is often just mild symptoms allows for it to spread much easier and without detection
After reading this article, I believe that the coronavirus is a serious health threat and needs to be taken seriously
This spreading of the virus will allow it to reach those demographics whom are most affected by it, putting them at great risk
Death Rates
The proportion of deaths among confirmed cases for those under 30 is 8 out of 4,500, about .18%
Deaths are 5 times more common among people with diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart or breathing problems
Death rates are 10 times higher among the elderly in 44,000 confirmed cases in China

Confirmed Cases
-
The majority of the cases are very mild, and as a result these people do not get tested, thus the cases are not confirmed
This makes the virus spread more easily spread, but also makes the death rates seem much higher than they actually are
