Play devils advocate, what opposing view could be expressed?
The information from the FBI could have been falsified to feed through the AP wire in order to loosen the guard of the criminals.
The reporting authorities outside of the FBI could have leaked information that was false in order to loosen the guard of the criminals.
The informants to the FBI could have falsified the information, even if they were a credible source.
The reporting media agencies could have knowingly reported information without sound evidence to back it up in order to raise ratings and knowing that the reputation of their agency would still carry through if some or any of the information reported is wrong.
What is your opinion about the issue, and what caused you to form that opinion?
I feel that news sources should be fact-checked and must prove their sources to the AP even if the information is kept confidential of the informant. Information. Especially if the news is breaking. they should be only taken at face value for primary sources and never secondary; as such as with what happened with the bombings, a secondary source had stated that they had heard about an arrest having been made - as opposed to receiving word from the arresting agency. The bombings incurred lots of reports where almost all based on skeptical accounts of attendees without proper provided evidence.
How could using a balance in research and reporting tactics have made a difference in the outcome of what was reported?

The credibility of the reporting agencies would have still been kept high, thus ensuring less confusion and higher reliability on the accuracy of the news
