Planning
Teacher: Planning lessons is key to being a teacher and ensuring you are hitting all outcomes necessary for your students. Planning is linked to both collaboration and organization. A good year plan is both organized by design and layout and is with influence from other experiences teachers. Planning helps teachers stay on track and is a rough guide for them to follow when events change and flexibility must occur.
Personal: In my everyday life, I keep a journal and planner to document all my classes, deadlines and appointments. I. find that this method of organization works well for me and since starting it I have not missed appointments. Through technology, this is also enhanced as I always have a sticky note on my laptop with current TO DO's
Manage Stress
Teaching: Self-care is so important for teachers and in recent times I have had to remind myself about boundaries and the separation of personal and teaching life. Through planning, I am able to manage my time to give each of these avenues of my life the dedication they deserve without letting either take over.
Personal: Much of my personal stress comes from work overlapping into personal spaces and therefore, Like I said above I am using planning and organization to ensure I take time for myself (exercise, self-care, relaxation) and my family/friends.
Organization
Teaching: Organization is key to a classroom running smoothly. it drives me crazy when I go to sub in classrooms and the teachers desk to a mess. A messy desk seems like the perfect way to loose assignments and clutter your brain. Keeping a good record of assignments for students and yourself can decrease frantic sessions in the classroom and allow for a more structured, calm environment in which students can thrive
Personal: Organization is everything to me in my personal life. I love days when I have nothing else planned when I can go through my pantry or closet and get everything in order. These actions help make day to day tasks easier and not as daunting
Collaboration
Teaching: Teachers are expected to work together to give students positive experiences in the classroom. Having a team to bounce ideas off of, create with and hold each other accountable and to high standards is important to the profession
Personal: While taking this Masters program it is evident that collaborating is essential. Almost every class I am taking has students in communities or groups to share ideas, goals and outlines for projects. This strengthened network allows for individuals to have access to other ideas, and resources in completing work and gain new perspectives on issues
