MIXTURE SEPARATION METHODS GROUP 1: Andrea Alcocer, Abril Baquero, Marc Azuaga and Roger Baulenas.
SIEVING
OBJECTIVE: Separate solids of different sizes.

STEPS:
- You put the mix in the sieve.
- The sieve is shaken.
- The components are separate.

DECANTATION
OBJECTIVE: Separate liquids with different densities.
MATERIAL: Empty beakers, decantation funnel and stand and a beaker with mixture.
STEPS:
1.You pass the beaker with mixture throw the decantation funnel and stand and we let it rest.
2.We open the decantation funnel and we let it pass the water in one beaker.
- The mixture of water and oil in another empty beaker.
- And the oil in an other empty beaker.
LEACHING
METERIAL: Beaker, paper filter, dish, mixture and a liquid that has to be a solvent of one of the components.
STEPS:
- You put alcohol with the mixture of the sugar and salt.
- You put the mixture throw the funnel with a filter paper.
- Then you put what you got in a dish and let it evaporated and then you have the mixture of salt and sugar that were disolt in the alcohol.
OBJECTIVE: Separate solid components of similarly sized particles.
MAGNETIC SEPARATION
MATERIAL: Magnet, paper sheet, sand with metal filings.
STEPS:
- You put a paper in the end of the magnet with adhesive.
- The magnet passed over the surface of the mixture.
- The magnet with the paper take all the metallic particles.
- The metallic particles fall into a dish.
OBJECTIVE: Separate the components with magnetic properties from the rest of the components.
FILTRATION
OBJECTIVE: Extract solid fragments from a liquid using a filter paper.
MATERIAL: Funnel, empty beaker, receiving beaker and a filter paper.
STEPS:
1.We put the paper filter in the funnel.
2.We mix the receiving beaker and we pass it throw the funnel.
FLOTATION
OBJECTIVE: Separate solid fragments by their density from a liquid.
MATERIAL: Paper filter, mixture of sand and sawdust, beaker and water.
STEPS:
- You put the mixture in the beaker and add water.
- We let it rest a little bit and we will see that the mixture is in the bottom of the beaker.
- You pass some of the water trow the funnel with the filter paper.
- You mix the rest of the mixture with water and we pass it throw the funnel with the paper filter.
