Energy Sources (Nuclear (Disadvantages (Nuclear energy is not eco-friendly…
Energy Sources
Nuclear
Advantages
Nuclear energy is a renewable source, since it doesn't depend on a finite resource.
Nuclear energy has saved over 1.8 million deaths worldwide. This is because the emission of CO2 as well as sulfur and nitric acids have reduced, which also reduces the number of people who die or have lung cancer.
Disadvantages
-
Nuclear reactors let out radioactive waste, which contains high levels of plutonium. Plutonium is basically acid, which can easily evaporate any living creature.
Nuclear energy is desired for the use of making weaponry that will help countries show their "dominance".
Nuclear energy uses uranium atoms during the process of fission. This is because uranium is very efficient compared to other materials.
In the nuclear reactor, uranium atoms are dissected. Following this, the uranium atom's electrons are extracted and converted into electricity.
Fossil Fuels
Disadvantages
Fossil fuels are non eco-friendly, since when they are burnt, they release nitric and sulhpuric acids.
Fossil fuels use many materials that are non-renewable, making it a non-renewable source of energy.
Fossil fuels are found as oil, steel, coal and diamonds.
To convert fossil fuels into electricity, they are burnt, and the steam rises up to turn a turbine which powers the generator. The generator converts this into electricity.
Advantages
Fossil Fuels are very efficient, since they can generate large amounts of electricity through just a single litre of oil.
Fossil Fuels are easily found in gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE.
Tidal
Advantages
Tidal energy is eco-friendly, since it does not harm the environment in any way.
Tidal energy is a renewable source of energy, since it uses the sheer force of the tides of the ocean to turn the turbine.
When dams that stop tides from flowing further, the water is accumulated in a chamber in which it turn a turbine. The turbine powers a generator which generated the electricity.
Disadvantages
Tidal energy can also result in floods and shortage of water, since the dams block lots of water.
Wind
Advantages
Wind energy is eco-friendly, since the way that electricity is generated doesn't harm the environment.
Wind energy is a renewable source of energy, since it uses the wind to turn turbines so that it can generate electricity.
When strong winds turn blades an a turbine of a windmill, the energy produced by the moving turbine helps with powering the generator so that it can produce electricity.
Disadvantages
The windmills that are built are very expensive, since they are predominately using materials such as iron.
The turbine on a windmill has a name for killing a lot of birds. Sometimes, when birds migrate, they fly straight into the windmills, resulting in the whole flock being killed or terribly injured.
Solar
Advantages
Solar energy is eco-friendly, since the process in which electricity is produced doesn't emit any gases or waste that can possibly affect the environment and the atmosphere.
Solar energy is a renewable source of energy since it uses photons, which are renewable. This makes Solar energy a renewable source of energy.
When solar panels trap photons, they extract the electrons and use convert them into electricity.
Disadvantages
Solar energy is hard to use in places such as Alaska, since there is very less sunlight during the day. This makes solar panels practically useless in these regions.
