what happens beyond where there are stores?
how do you refuel?
how do you know what's safe to eat and drink?
where do you sleep? how do you get out of the elements? deal with the hot/cold?
how do you know what environmental effects there are? dizziness from altitude? allergies and psychotropic effects of plants? illusions of plants? hunting/herding/fear reactions of animals? signs of natural disasters in asteroids and nebulas? trails of lumbering behemoths in the stars?
who knows the signs of the native cultures or can figure them out? what if they are non-speaking? what if they are superstitous? what if they are droids? what if they were colonists who have evolved from a known species into something very different to adapt? what if they've disappeared (look up mysteriously gone colonies)?
stories
the war is over. the empire is "gone". the rebellion is very slowly re-establishing a free, democratic republic. now what?
freedom isn't handed to you on a silver platter.
a vanished sentient
signs of an intelligent species that evolved into space whales.
signs of long-ago worker droid(s) who have built and built intelligence and become... a lone guru? a telepathic presence? an ancient crypt-builder where it can rest, like a pharoh?
