2. Early Intervention
Communicate with the Parents
Contact parents and share teacher observations
Form a Support Team
A Student of Concern Committee is formed comprised of classroom teachers, learning support, special education teacher, principal, counselor, as well as the parents
Documentation and Evaluation
Subject Teacher and Special Education Teacher observe and document student behavior
Action Plan
The Student of Concern Committee forms an action plan to address student problem areas
3.Differentiate Instruction
Teaching Strategies
Assign children to work in smaller work groups
Verbal and written instructions
Utilize different co-teaching methods with the Special Education teacher when possible
Extra time to finish tasks or shortened tasks more appropriate for their level
Multisensory instruction (visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic)
Pre-teach ideas and concepts
Present information graphically (pictures, videos)
Supply students with class notes, spelling lists, and vocabulary words to aid in understanding class material

Classroom Accommodations
Arrange seating in class to allow for spaces for individual work as well as group work.
Seat the student within close proximity to the teacher
Reduce unnecessary noise in the classroom.

4. Followup
Student of Concern Committee meets on a weekly basis to discuss student progress
Counseling and Student Services work together to identify any challenges facing the student by talking to content teachers and identifying areas of success or areas of challenge.
Student of Concern Committee determines if further evaluation is needed for Tier 3 Support
