What did I learn
From what I learned from reading recent reviews of the game. People are itching to either have the game remastered or a have a sequel. This idea is something i fully agree on. With a new spin off series releasing movies, I think it could be a very good idea to get a game that explores part of that world onto the shelves.
I feel the audience values the IP as many people grew up with Harry Potter and often look back fondly on the series. To honour this, the game would have to stick to the what its known for( the flying, fast paced and thrilling game play) and not be something that would disappoint players
People often complained about sluggish movement and repetitive gameplay. This is something that should be improved on when creating the game. Also adding more animations so the same ones are always repeating.
Implementing a more effective AI system that puts up more of a challenge to the player and raises the skill ceiling
This game would obviously fall under the sport genre but I feel it would also somewhat fall under the fantasy genre as it is a fictional sport. I feel it would also go under multiplayer, as many games these days thrive off their multiplayer aspect and it would be a great inclusion in the game.
Origin and History
The game was released in 2003, this was when The Harry potter series was gaining popularity as the more and more movies were coming out. The game was based on the fictional sport of Quidditch, a game played on broomsticks in the wizarding world. EA, the publisher, tried to take this sport and create a game from it, something that had previously not been done.
. The game was met with mixed reviews. Most saying that game had good graphics and enjoyed the inclusion of the easily recognizable characters.
Target Audience
The primary target audience of the game would be people who enjoy the Harry Potter series. Seeing as this is an incredibly popular series, there is a huge audience that this game could be sold to. Due to the game being released on many platforms, many people would be able to buy the game for their preferred platform and not miss out.
The type of players that make up the audience for the IP would be that of explorers. They would want to explore the magical world. However, being a sports game, it would most likely be those who are "killers" that would be the audience of this game.
They would enjoy gaining points and winning status but they enjoy it more if someone is on the losing end.
Emotional Connection
Having actually played the game on PC years AND being a huge fan of the Harry Potter series, the IP means a lot to me. I am always looking for something new I can sink my teeth into in the wizarding world and being able to first hand play a sport I thought I could never play was definitely a "magical" moment.
Age Rating
The original game did not include any sort of reason to be rated anything other than E (for Everyone) However, I feel that most people that would play the game nowadays would be late teenagers and up who grew up with the series. For this reason I feel like the game should include a bit of violence at times ,much like the original game in the books.
The plan would be to do extensive research into the game of Quidditch, notes from the books and scenes from the films, to try and create a game that is as similar to the original idea as possible.
Taking elements from the previous games and improving them, eg celebrations after scoring a goal, and create more animations so they dont become so repetitive.
Adding new mechanics such as having the ability to manipulate the bludgers (a notorious feature of Quidditch).
The experience I would want old players coming to the new game would be that of being able to remember the experience they had playing the original game but also feel have it modern and keep them coming back for more. A way of ensuring this would be making the game have an element of challenge. Something 9 year old me felt was lacking from the original game.
The appeal of the game would be determined on how much you like the Harry Potter series. Huge fans would buy the game without second thought, while those who just enjoyed the movies would be hesitant to purchase the game. However, it could attract many new customers as it could make them curious about the game because chances are they haven't seen anything like it
I know that I am not alone with my obsession to Harry Potter, this being said, I know there are thousands of people who probably also hold the game in a special part in their hearts
I feel a good rating would be 16. This would allow the game to be as close to the book version of the game with occasional contact between players, but also young enough to attract new players.
