Biotechnology
Cloning
Pros
Pro:
One pro of cloning is that you can obtain desired traits in organisms. This means that certain animals would be cloned to be specifically used for research and you wouldn't worry about hurting the animal.
Pros:
Another pro is that cloning can help in genetic research. This means that genectic researchers would have a better understanding of the compostion of genes and the effects of the genetic constituents.
Cons
Cons:
One con of cloning is increased malpractice. This means that there could be a possibility of people deliberately reproducing undesired traits. That would lead to a rise in malpractices within the society.
Cons:
Another con of cloning is reproductive cloning. This means that the children that were cloned may be seen as less human than the children that are not cloned.
GMO's
Pros
Pros:
One pro of gmo's is that it is more nutritious food. This means that it is going to taste better too and be healthier than regular food.
Pros:
Another pro for gmos is that it is an increased in supply for food with reduced cost and longer shelf life. This means that food wont run out as fast and it will cost less.
Cons
Cons:
One con of gmos is that it can cause allergic reactions. Some people believe that gmo foods have more potential to trigger allergic reactions.
Cons:
Another con for gmos is that they can cause antibacterial resistance. This means that if you get sick and you need antibiotics then those antibiotics may not work because you have eaten gmo foods.
Artificial Selection
Pros:
One pro of artificail selection is that it will allow needed traits to be produced quickly and effectively. This means that the desired trait can be recogonized during the embroyis stage. That means that you can remove the offspring that doesn't have that desired trait.
Pros:
Another pro is that it can enhance the quality of what is being created. This means that if you use artificial selection in a food chain then it allows for the creation of foods that can grow faster and store longer.
Cons
Cons:
Cons of artificial selection is that the quality of life is often reduced through artificial selection. This means that when inbreeding or same-species pollination happens too frequently, then the offspring tends to have a lower average lifespan
Cons:
Another con of artificial selection is that the choice is subjective to the person or group is performing the selective breeding. This means that what someone sees to be a benefitical trait someone else may not agree. This makes the artificial selection process very subjective
Bioremediation
Pros
Pros:
One pro of bioremediation is that it can control pollution. This means that it can use the breakdown of pollution and use it as an energy source. Bioremediation also turns the pollution into non-toxic substances.
Pros:
Another pro of bioremediation is that bioremediation requires fewer resources and less energy than conventional technology. This means that it is healthier and cleaner for the environment.
Cons
Cons:
One con if bioremediation is if the process is not done correctly then that can lead to toxic by-products. This can be more mobile than the intial contamination
Cons:
Another con of bioremediation is that bioremediation can take more time to carry out than traditional methods. This means that bioremediation has better results but it can take more time.
