-
causes
-
-
-
-
abdominal surgery, which allows rapid access of glucose via exposed surfaces in the stomach and small intestines
-
clinical manifestation
they are described according to sympathetic and central nervous system manifestations and the severity of hypoglyceamia.
mild hypoglycaemia drop in blood glucose stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, resulting in a surge of adrenaline. it presents by anxiety, irritability, palpations, diaphoresis, tremors and hunger.
moderate hypoglycaemia results in impaired function of the central nervous system causing poor concentration, headache, confusion, numbness of the lips, slurred speech, double vision and drowsiness.
severe hypoglycaemia impaires the central nervous system in such a way that the patient needs assistance. patient become disorientated, progressing loss of consciousness and seizures.
-
definition

is the abnormal low blood glucose in the blood, such as an arterial plasma concentration less than 3.3 mmol per litre
classification
fasting hypogycaemia
pathophysiology
-
-
-
-
-
it is seen by symptoms like mental confusion, siezures and coma.
Reactive hypoglyceamia
pathophysiology
