Module 3 Application: Interdisciplinary Lesson - Planning for a Trip…

- - - - Begin with mini lesson on calculating tax and tip
      - Review Goal of Interdisciplinary lesson and using Excel to help efficiently budget for their trip.
        Model a sample trip, on a smaller scale, and brainstorm as a class the fees students might need to account for.
        
        Students will spend two days researching and planning for their trip, comparing which hotels they plan to stay at, what activities they plan to do, as well as the transportation fees to get to their location and travel within their destination.
        Throughout each class, students will record helpful resources or tips with their peers within the shared class Google doc.
        
        Assessment: Students will share their Excel doc with me to be reviewed. As a class we will reflect on the process, noting things that surprised us as well as what element of the trip cost the most. Students will then share their budget within small groups and then share out as a whole group.
      - Mini Lesson on using Excel and inputting formulas in Excel. Practice on a given set of data to help students understand and problem solve together. Analyze each set of results to attend to precision. Students should still view their data with a critical eye to make sure they are inputting the data and formulas correctly.
- - - - Students will choose a Latin America country they will like to visit. They will identify endangered species, ecosystems and causes of declining wildlife biodiversity in such country.
      - They will research the kind of recreational activities they can engage at the chosen country. They will develop an itinerary
      - Assessment: Students develop and present a PowerPoint with their findings. The audience will include a travel agent. They will include pictures and an itinerary. Students would also incorporate their planned budget and their excel page developed in their Math class.
- - - - Teacher Discretion: Students should be given the option to work with a partner, but allow them to work individually if they are unable to find someone who wants to travel to the same location as they do. The Google Slide presentation should be at least 8 slides: two for each type of map, a title page, and a reference page. After they have had two days to research and prepare their presentations, students will present them to the class.
    - - Review how to identify reliable sources and provide students with sources for locating accurate maps. Students will need Chromebooks in order to complete the assignment
      - Timing: This will occur after students have selected their country, but before they finish their ecotourism lesson and brochure.

      - Learning Goal: Students will compare and contrast a location of their choice in Latin America to where they currently live in order to analyze uniqueness of place.
- - - - I would imagine this component would take 3 days to complete.
        1 days for mini-lesson using Excel and then 2 days for students to work on their Excel doc.
      - Once the lesson is completed, students can share their planned vacation and their budgets, detailing the highest cost items and what they expensive surprised them.
