Biotechnology
Cloning
-
Clones are superior breeding animals used to produce healthier offspring. It helps make the animals live healthier and possibly live longer.
Animal cloning offers great benefits to consumers, farmers, and endangered species. It helps improve there chances of avoiding extinction.
-
Researchers have observed some adverse health effects in sheep and other mammals that have been cloned. These include an increase in birth size and a variety of defects in vital organs, such as the liver, brain and heart.
Other consequences include premature aging and problems with the immune system. This can be bad for there chances of survival because it can effect there population severely.
GMO's
-
Creates many different types of combinations for many living things which can be good for discovering many new things/ living things.
-
Most GMO's have been engineered to withstand the direct application of herbicide and/or produce an insecticide.
Artificial selection
Pros
It will allow needed traits to be produced quickly and effectively. For many genetic traits, there is just a 25% chance of the offspring having the trait that is desired.
It can enhance the quality of what is being created. When artificial selection is used in the food chain, then it allows for the creation of foods that can grow faster and store longer.
Cons
There can be unanticipated consequences of encouraging a specific trait. Let’s say there are carrots being created through artificial selection that are narrower, longer, and colored blue.
It lessens the amount of a variation that exists in a gene pool. When the genetics of a population group are too similar, then the result will often be a higher risk of mutation.
Bioremediation
Pros
Bioremediation uses micro-organisms to reduce pollution through the biological degradation of pollutants into non-toxic substances. Helps get rid of the bad pollutants in our waters.
Groundwater polluted with ammonia was cleaned using a new bioremediation technique that saw archaeal microbes breaking down the ammonia into harmless nitrogen gas. It helps solve new ways of dealing with pollution.
Cons
The global population continues to rise at an astonishing rate, with estimates suggesting it will be in excess of 9 billion in 2050. If we don't find a way to fix this it can be bad for our home planet,.
Industrial soils can be polluted by a variety of sources, such as chemical spillages, or the accumulation of heavy metals from industrial emissions. If we don't find a good and helpful way to get rid of this then we might as well say bye bye to our home.
