- - - - Let the student know you are there to help and give additional assistance if they need it.
  - - - Schedule a parent conference. This will ensure that the family understands the problem and has the opportunity to participate in its resolution.
        
        Assess changes in behavior and adjust teaching strategy.
    - - Find out his/her interests. Incorporate the student's interests into the lessons.
  - - - Mediate to resolve any issues with others so the student can feel that s/he is being heard and his/her viewpoints are validated.
    - - Schedule a family conference to find out if the disciplinary issues carry over from activities in the home.
        
        If the family is supportive, involve them in a plan to help curb bad behavior that can be consistent between his/her home life and school life.
        
        If the family is not cooperative or seem to be creating an unsafe/unsteady home environment, help them understand how important home life is to his/her success in school.
        
        Assess any changes. If there are no changes, discuss it privately with the student. Find out how they feel about their home life and what changes they would like to see.
        
        Help them develop a plan to mitigate the problems they face at home.
        
        Assess changes in behavior.
    - - Develop a scaffolding plan with the student. A scaffolding plan will build a bridge from his/her current level of understanding to the desired goal. There can be small bridges to easily obtainable goals. Help the student cross these bridges until the main goal is reached.
  - - - Schedule a parent conference. This will ensure that the family understands the problem and has the opportunity to participate in its resolution.
