Character Mind-map for A Midsummer Night's Dream
Court
Theseus
Played by same actor as Oberon, Duke of Athens, engaged to Hipplolyta because he conquered her and her kingdom
Egeus
Father of Hermia, wants Hermia to marry Demetrius instead of Lysander.
Hippolyta
Played by same actress/actor as Titania, Queen of the Amazons, engaged to Theseus, indifferent about the union
Philostrate
Master of Revels or, in other word, in charge of the entertainment of the Duke
Lovers
Helena
In love with Demetrius (because he slept with her)
Lysander
In love with Hermia but falls in love with Helena when the love potion is accidentally given to him.
Hermia
In love with Lysander although her father wants her to marry Demetrius.
Demetrius
Formerly in (a relationship?) with Helena now in love with Hermia because of Hermia's father.
Fairies
Oberon
King of the fairies (given the way he was portrayed in the Clickview play and hinted at in numerous other sources it is possible that he was not necessarily heterosexual and possibly wanted the changeling for reasons best left unsaid which would be interesting if Shakespeare intended for him to be that way)
Titania
Queen of the Fairies, married to Oberon,, however is fighting with him, an unhappy marriage
Puck
Fairy, attendant to Oberon, mischievous and known for being somewhat childish
Other Fairies
Other mostly seem to be Titania's servants and do her bidding.
Mechanicals
Tom Snout the tinker
Plays the wall. Not much else to say here
Robin Starveling the tailor
Plays the moon. Again not much else
Francis Flute the bellows-mender
Plays Thisbe in the play, possibly in a very high pitched voice. Something of a follower of Nick Bottom I think.
Peter Quince The Carpenter
Essentially the director of the play, making sure everyone knows what they are doing. None of them no what they are doing but anyways.
Snug the Joiner
Plays the lion and is 'slow of study'
Nick Bottom The Weaver
Plays Pyramus in the play and is, as the rest of them are, pretty bad even though he thinks he is good and much more qualified than the rest of the cast. Briefly became an ass which is ironically linked to his name Nick Bottom.
