Brown vs. Board of Education
In 1954, parts of the U.S had segregated schools. In Topeka, Kansas Oliver Brown claimed the racial segregation violated the 14th amendment. Thurgood Marshall became the first black governor (1976) and he was the leader of plaintiffs.

Civil Rights of 1964
This ended segregation in public places and banned employment and discrimination. Considered one of the crowning legislative achievments. First proposed by John F. Kennedy. Signed into law by Lyndon B. Johnson. Congress than expanded the act.

Albany Movement
The fall of 1961 to the summer of 1962. The goal of the movement was to desegregate the entire community. Many were arrested for marching. Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested 8 months later king left Albany admitting that he failed to accomplish the movement goals.

Sibley Commission
In 1960, governer Ernest had to make the choice of whether to close public schools or to desegregate them. The Sibley Commission issued reports on desegregation of schools laid the foundation for ending massive resistance against desegregating schools.
