Sibley Commision
In 1960 Earnest Vandiver was a GA governor that decided to close public schools or desegregate them.
The Sibley Commission was the General Assembly Committee of Schools charged with gathering citizens' sentiments on desegregation.
This was created by Griffen Bell and laid a foundation for ending massive resistance to desegregate and avoid a showdown between Vandiver and the federal government.
