What Ss can hear:
- Ss have great difficulty hearing pronunciation features
- It's hard for them to distinguish between certain sounds
--> Solution:
- Demonstrate and explain Ss how sounds are made through
- Gradually train Ss' hearing through drawing attention when possible
What Ss can say:
- Ss have a hard time making the sound using particular parts of the mouth, uvula or nasal cavity
--> Solution:
- Show and explain exactly how sounds are produced (teeth, lips shape...)
The intonation problem:
- Ts can have trouble identifying rising and falling tones --> hard to teach and discuss in-depth patterns
- However, Ts can help Ss have opportunities to recognize moods and imitate the way moods are articulated
PHONEMIC SYMBOLS
- Ss can be aware of different phonemes
- Ss can know how the word is said using dictionary only
- Ss can better understand T's explanation
- Ss can use them for tasks and games
