In 1955, Bell began a campaign to subsitute the Confederate Flag into Georgia's flag and it went through with the legislature's support.
The new flag represented Georgia's views on segregation #
Some Georgians in the 1960s began saying this was not a proper symbol for Gerogia. (Height of the civil rights movement)
The people wanted to create massive resistance to Brown V. Board of Edu., thus making it easier for the legislation to pass through.
In 1969, state rep. Janet Merritt proposed changing it back to the pre-1956 flag
