1) Determine Graph
Bar graph - only made if one of the two variables portrayed is nominal (value expressed as quality)
Line or scatter plot - both variables have number and scatter plots have large numbers
2) What is independent variable (manipulated) and which variable is dependent variable (responding)
Independent variable = x axis (cause)
Dependent variable = y axis (effect)
3) Label x/y axis
Label x axis with Independent variable and in parenthesis unit
Label y axis with Dependent variable and in parenthesis unit
4) Title
Name of Dependent Variable (Y) by Name of Independent variable (X)
5) Appropriate Scale
Look at high and low scale
Each scale must be equal
6) Plot the data
Metric Conversion
Base Unit - 1x
deci- 10 units smaller (1/10 x)
Deca - 10 units larger (10x)
centi- 100 units smaller (1/100x)
Hecto - 100 units larger (100x)
mili- 1000 units smaller (1/1000x)
Kilo - 1000 unit larger (1000x)
