Intelligence
Theorists
Binet - Alfred Binet created an IQ test which tested ones mental age in relation to their biological age
Pros of IQ : Can be a good base line; Helpful in identifying students who may need a little more help
Cons of IQ: If used incorrectly can be an excuse to leave children behind; data may not always be fair depending on things like familiarity with the test, language of the test, culture represented in the test, etc.
-
Gardner & Sternberg - Both theorists had ideas of multiple intelligences. Gardner had 8 categories of intelligence, and Sternberg clumped some of them together to have three larger categories of intelligence.
Gardner : Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Musical, Spatial, Body-Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal. Naturalist

Nurture
-
Level of intelligence can be expressed or suppressed depending on one's environment and the level of care they receive
-
Learning Styles
Pros: Teaching to learning styles can aid in student success. It can help them find methods of studying that work for them
Cons: Using the multiple intelligence theories it can be hard to create lessons that showcase all categories of intelligence. It can also be a downfall if students begin think they can only using one learning style; they need to be able to study material in multiple ways in order to fully grasp new concepts.
