chapter 6-7
cellular membranes
a single cell can carry out several different functions
their are short membranes called glycolipids
about 50 proteins have been found
carbohydrates very from species to species
is a collage of different proteins
they transport proteins
membranes are held together by hydrophobic
they have energy called thermal energy
amphipathic means that is water loving and water fearing
most membranes have phospholipid which is amphipathic
Lipids and proteins are the staple ingredients
microscopy
first person to see cells was Robert Hooke in 1655
light microscope is were the light is shine through the specimen
invented in 190
transmission electron microscope
we can look at atoms that are 0.1nm
their are magnify to 1,000
cells
their are many different types of cells
are a fundamental to the living system
cells are modified over time but even ktho they have been modified they stil share a commen features
we have many cells in are body that help us do everyday functions
the cell plant has nucleus, rough endoplasmic reticum, smoth endoplasmic, ribosomes, golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, peroxisome, plasma membrane, cell wall, plasmodesmate, chloroplast
all cells contain chromosomes
prokaryotic and euckayotic cell
eukaryotic means true nucleus
prokaryotic means before nucleus
while in prokaryotic cell the DNA has a nucleoid
in eukaryotic cells most DNA is in an organelle called nucleus
cytosol- its a jellylike substance
