Climate Factors
Air Masses/Wind
Description: Air masses are volumes of air that have generally have the same temperature and pressure. Wind is the movement of air caused by the uneven heating of the Earth by the sun.
Location: The Prairies are big and very flat and open so warm air travels up from the south in the summer which causes it to rain when it meets colder air. The cold air travels downward from the poles in the winter. This dry air is why there is not as much snow.

Latitude
-
Image:
Description: Latitude is the lines across the earth and some of the main lines are Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer and the equator. These affect the climate because the equator is closest to the sun. As you move further from the sun the temperature falls.
Elevation
Description: The elevation of a geographic location is its height above or below a fixed reference point like sea level.
Image:
Location: Elevation happens in Mont Tremblant, Quebec because it is very high (915m) above sea level so it is much colder.
Ocean Currents
Discription: An ocean current is water moving in a circular pattern to mix different temperatures of water. The forces acting on the water include wind, waves, temperature, salinity, depth and shoreline.
Location: Ocean currents happen in the Labrador current on the east coast of Canada and the north pacific current because they are ocean currents

Bodies of Water
Description: When hot bodies of water are beside land the water acts as a natural heater to the Earth. when the hot water evaporates it makes the air dense and heats up the Earth.
Location: This happens in the Atlantic Ocean and the North Pacific Ocean because they are very big pools of water and there are cold and warm spots.

Relief
Description: Relief is the difference in the lowest and highest point in an area, so the relief from the top of a mountain to the bottom of the valley is greater than somewhere that is flat like the Prairies.
