Photosynthesis vocab words
Producer
Producers are organisms that make their own food; they are also known as autotrophs. They get energy from chemicals or the sun, and with the help of water, convert that energy into useable energy in the form of sugar, or food. The most common example of a producer are plants.
Photosynthesis
The process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water. Photosynthesis in plants generally involves the green pigment chlorophyll and generates oxygen as a byproduct.
Light Energy
Light energy. A form of energy consisting of particle-like photons with wavelike properties, and in which affects the physiology of organism, e.g. through sense of sight, photosynthesis, etc. Light energy is a form of energy and is expressed in joules.
Organisms
An individual animal, plant, or single-celled life form.
Glucose
A simple sugar which is an important energy source in living organisms and is a component of many carbohydrates.
Reactants
A substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a reaction.
Products
Products are the species formed from chemical reactions. During a chemical reaction reagents are transformed into products after passing through a high energy transition state. This process results in the consumption of the reagents.
Chloroplats
The chloroplast is the place in a plant cell where photosynthesis happens. Your rose bushes have chloroplasts, but you don't. Chloroplast is the combination of two biological terms, plastid (an organelle in a plant cell), and chloros, which means green.
Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is a molecule produced by plants, algae and cyanobacteria which aids in the conversion of light energy into chemical bonds. ... Pigments produce a variety of colors in the plant and animal world. Chlorophyll is a green pigment, and is responsible for the green color of plants and algae.
Hydrolysis
Hydrolysis, the opposite of condensation, is a chemical reaction in which water breaks down another compound and changes its makeup. Most instances of organic hydrolysis combine water with neutral molecules, while inorganic hydrolysis pairs water with ionic molecules, such as acids, salts and bases.
Dehydration
Dehydration reactions. A chemical reaction whereby a water molecule is lost, such as that during the synthesis of an organic compound. Supplement. In biology and chemistry, synthesis is the process of creating an organic compound especially through the aid of enzymes.
