Why do things seem to fall at different speeds on earth?
The gases that make up the earths atmosphere push against objects as they fall.
Which the is called Air resistance: which is the friction between the air and the moving object
Its the resistance of the air pushing against the object that really affect how fast something falls.
And mas sand weight has no affect on how fast it falls it is the shape
The solid mass coming from space is a meteoroid
when it comes crashing into the atmosphere it is a meteor
(they are usually the size of a grain of sand) even though they are very small they have a huge amount of kinetic energy and go very fast.
A big contribution to a meteor's heat is compression. (when you compress a gas it heats up and when the meteor comes in at supersonic speed the air in front of it is compressed a lot.
and when it crashed on ground it is a meteorite
meteor showers come from comets
trains come from the heat evaporating of the meteor and leaving a train.
comets
Made of dust rock and metal with an icy shell
When the comet goes to close to the sun the ice sublimates and leaves it tail
Asteroids
Comets without the ice
they mostly form between mars and Jupiter in the asteroid belt
Dangerous
Meteoroids
Larger than a grain of dust but smaller than an asteroid (space debris)
only the size of a pebble
Meteors
meteoroids that hit the atmosphere (or shooting stars)
when it comes into the atmosphere it burns up
Meteorites
Meteoroid that hits the surface. they are to small to be detected.
