Order and Chaos (Freedom (Censorship, Government, Rebels, Terrorism,…
-
Violence is something commonly seen as chaotic. Often following an outburst of anger or possibly the production of adrenaline in a stressful situation. It is not seen as a positive, often portrayed as something thugs and disreputable people do. While it can be used as an art form, in the forms of martial arts, is has this stigma that will likely never change.
Control. Something that is said time and time again in the definition for order. It is not a good thing or a bad thing. Intent is really the thing that gives this theme any significance. Trying to control things to keep them safe can be good or bad. It all depends on how much freedom you give them. Again the intent comes into question and that decides whether or not it is truly moral.
Mental Health. It is an interesting theme for the idea of Order and Chaos. Not a theme that I am fully comfortable to go into and fully explore, but interesting non the less. It is deeply rooted in the idea of Order and Chaos. A mind is chaotic, thoughts and emotions swaying around inside it. So not everyone can conform with their emotions.
Freedom is a choatic idea in nature. After all, true freedom would be to live without rules or guidelines. Order is living with rules and guidelines. So while an extreme case, freedom must be a chaotic ideal. Though it is not typically seen as a negative ideal. Sure it can be used to justify acts like terrorism, but it's also been used in historical revolutions.
Gods typically have order above all things. There are even gods or order and law. They impose their will on the universe, which is orderly. Though they are not free from chaos. They often fight among themselves, or religious zealots will commit atrocities in the name of their god. So they have one foot in both sides of this theme. Making them an interesting thing to base this project around.
Magic. Bending the fabric of the universe to your whims. It is both chaotic, yet orderly. This theme really brings a lot of ideas of right and wrong. Which is where magic comes in. For me, an avid D&D player, magic is something that can easily be used for both. Every spell works in specific ways. The fire spell lights things on fire. The illusion spell makes an illusion. There is a written rule for how they work. Though that doesn't stop people from exploiting magic to bring chaos into society. So many things
Containing chaos. How does that work? That is the interesting question behind this theme. It automatically creates the questions of why and how. Though the more interesting situation would be chaos containing order. The idea of being contained and trapped is something that most people will say is a bad thing. It raises multiple moral quandaries and it is something that is absolutely fascinating to me.
There must be balance in all things. That is a common theme in media. Where there is good there is bad, where there is light there's shadows and where there is order there is chaos. Balance and Opposites are completely entwined with each other.
