Personality Judgement
Moderators of accuracy
Good information: High quantity and quality (relevant) information for judging the trait is available in the context of observation
-
Good traits: Traits that make a number of overt, visible behavioural cues available for judges in diverse contexts
Find traits that emit lots of cues and are more readily detectable, some traits are good for internal processes and some for external
Good targets: Individuals who are more expressive, meaning that they exhibit more relevant behavioural cues that allow others to judge their traits
-
Good judges: Perceptive people who are better able to elicit and detect relevant information and correctly utilize it to form target judgments
-
Self-reported data: Good for collecting information from thoughts, emotions, etc. not easily observable from a judge. Bad as can be biased for self-enhancement, and can incorrectly recall certain info
Informant-report data: Judgments by people who know the target well, like family/friends. Easy to cross-verify and more accurate than strangers' observations, but judges typically only see the target in a restricted range of contexts, biasing observations
