Formative
Defintion: Formative assessments are formal and informal assessments given by teachers to figure out how much students know and how little they know about the topic.
Exit Ticket: Students will have to come up with a question relevant to the text that can be supported with evidence from the text.
Exit Slip: Students will receive an exit slip with a STAAR stem question that can be found in the text.
Benchmark
Definition: Benchmark assessments are given students to students to get a better understanding of where they are at academically.
STARR: The students will take the Texas Standardized Test in order to assess whether or not the students are on grade level.
MAP Testing: Map Testing gives students a variety of questions that are on topic and grade level that will assess how successful they are in that subject.
Summative
Definition: Summative Assessments take place at the end of a unit. Students are tested on topics learned in the unit.
CFA: A Common Formative Assessment is created by the teacher to track students learning during the unit.
District Assessment: District Assessments are created by the district and are given to the students at the end of every six weeks to assess their learning.
Diagnostic
Definition: Otherwise known as pre assessments, diagnostics are to assess what students know before the
unit taught.
Questionnaires: Students will fill out a survey over the topic that will be taught to asses what they do and do not know.
Hook: Students participate in a "hook" created by the teacher to assess what they already know and what they do not know. An example would be giving the students vocabulary words and having them make predictions on how they relate to the objective of the day.
Performance
Definition: Performance is an assessment where students must perform a task that requires them to use their prior knowledge of the lesson and create something.
Illustration: Students will illustrate what they have read in the unit to help them comprehend and visual the information in the text.
Readers Theater: Students create a create a readers theater script based off of their new and prior learning of the topic.
