Should Canada close its borders because of the Corona Virus?
Canadian Travellers
"I'm disappointed that I can no longer travel but I am relieved that Canada is taking precautions to keep us safe."
Canadian travellers would be unhappy
Would not be able to travel, however, there are already fewer travellers due to the corona virus and its presence within airports.
Canadian Government
The government is clearly worried about the spread of the virus and this would give them a motive to close the borders to prevent any more outbreak.
Municipal Government
The municipal governments aren't necessarily directly affected, other than the citizens that live within them.
Provincial Government
Provinces that largely rely on trades for their income such as Alberta (oil), British Colombia (wood), and Atlantic regions (fish) would suffer and the amount of money that they earn would decrease.
Federal Government
This would affect the income of money for the country (trades, tourism, etc.)
If they close the borders to any incomers, the Corona virus can be contained and isolated, and there won't be a nation wide sickness.
"We believe this is the best way to contain and get rid of the corona virus. The safety of Canadian citizens is in our best interest."
Canadian Citizens
Jobs
Jobs in several areas of work would be limited or unavailable. These jobs include world trades, transportation, airlines, tourism.
Students who wish to study abroad to learn and acquire better or more advanced training would not be able to.
Health
The Corona Virus can be deadly and so the health of Canadians is at risk
The main reason for the closing of the Canadian borders would be the health and safety of Canadian Citizens. This would ensure that the risk of infection would be lower.
Freedom
One of the main things we as Canadians are proud of is our freedom, and this would have less meaning if the borders were to be closed.
Many things would become restricted, such as where we are allowed to go, variety of items (exported goods)
I like that the government is trying to keep us safe. I am still unsure of the limitations though, I guess we will all just have to get used to them."
Travel Agencies and Airlines
Would receive less money due to the absence of incoming and outgoing flights and travellers
"We understand that this will help Canadians stay safe, but we also fear the loss of money that may result from this."
Airlines would not carry the virus from country to country, therefore allowing the virus to be further isolated and controlled
Canadian Trade
The Canadian trade would be largely affected. This is because Canada's economy has relied on the trade business for a long time.
Many Canadians who work in the trades businesses would be put out of work
If the borders were closed, exported goods could no longer be sent and received, therefore putting the trades to a stop
"This will affect us immensely. The trades are a big part of the Canadian economy, and I don't think closing the borders is the answer."
Canadian Immigrants
Would be forced to go elsewhere or nowhere at all
"I had hoped to immigrate to Canada, but now that the borders have closed I have no where else to go."
