Sources
Temporary characteristics on a scale (mood, etc.)
Stable characteristics of the personal on a scale (intelligence, etc.)
Characteristics of the research situation (lab conditions, etc.)
Characteristics of the scale (bad questions, measures that negatively impact the subject, etc.)
Mistakes recording data (equipment failure, etc.)

Validating RWA scale
Known groups validation
Winnipeg legislature, Tory politicians' average RWA scores twice as high as that of NDP politicians
Convergent validation
Positive correlation between RWA and Christian values, etc. and positive correlation with prejudice to Jewish people, etc.
Discriminant validity
RWA scores not significantly correlated to self-esteem, loneliness, self-deception,etc.

Validation of measures
Face validity

Criterion problem
-
Criterion said to be deficient if important performance behaviours not captured in a particular criterion measure
-
Construct validity
Simultaneously tests theory of the construct and validity of the measure by assessing how the measure relates to other theory-relevant measures and outcomes, ONGOING PROCESS
The accumulation of successful predictions involving the measure and diverse observations enhances confidence in the measure’s validity, and vice versa if it doesn't
Known groups validation - When theory predicts that defined groups ought to differ systematically in levels of the construct being tested, then these groups’s average scores should differ in the predicted way on the measure of that construct
The convergent validity principle - other measures that are theoretically related to the construct that is being measured ought to correlate well with that measure
The discriminant validity principle -other measures that are not theoretically related to the construct being measured ought to not correlate with that measure
