Science of individuality: Measuring and explaining patterned individual differences in behaviour, subjective experience and personal functioning
How can we use scientific methods to study individuality?
Individual is a system of patterned uniqueness
Personality is a universal phenomenon, but only found in individual forms
In order to study it correctly, must look into the individuality of the patterns present
How do we know a person?
Traits
Big 5, etc.
Personal concerns
What the person wants at a particular point in time, what methods they'll use
Identity narratives
Self-identity, identities created to the extent that it's coherent
Layers or personality
Actor: traits and roles
Day 1 from being born
Agent: goals and values

Why study personality?
Intrinsically interested in personal differences
Which GoT character are you, MBTI, etc.
Correcting mistaken or confused ideas about personality differences
Correlation with violence and low self-esteem, while also with violence and narcissism
Predict important life outcomes
Correlation with neuroticism and divorce, etc.
