indications
treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes but who cannot be managed by diet alone.
used in patients with NIDDM who are old and middle aged or even obese.

mechanism of action
stimulation of insulin release from the B cells of pancreas by blocking the ATP sensitive K+ channels, resulting in depolarization and Ca2+ influx.
lowers blood glucose levels.
