Emotional Intelligence
Strengths
Social Awareness
I am good at understanding how other people are feeling. For example, when my friend starts to become stressed because they have to miss multiple assessments due to their concusion, I am able to reassure and comfort them with a mixture of reasoning and listening.
-
Self-Management
It is easy for me to decipher when it is appropriate to act a certain way such as talk to my friends in comparison to focusing researching for an assignment.
Self-Awareness
I believe that I am good at understanding and knowing why I feel a certain way. For example, I know that I feel annoyed when I stay indoors for too long.
I believe that this is an important skill of mine because it allows me to know which universities and programs that I like so that I can be more assertive when applying for university programs.
This is an important skill because it allows me to assess how I can improve my mood which can be used anytime and anywhere.
Challenges
Adapting to conflict
When my gym presentation topic changed unexpectedly, I had trouble rethinking the key points that I would be explaining.
Pleasing everyone's will
Sometimes, I may value efficiency over the opinions of other people. Such as during a group computer engineering project, when we were behind because we could not choose the type of program to code, I started to make quick decisions that may have not pleased everyone.
-
Self-Doubt
I do not believe that I have a lot of self-doubt mainly because I do not think much of how much I trust myself or my performance. I try to keep in mind that I am trying my best or that I will be alright when met with reflection.
Motivations
Interacting with others
I enjoy do volunteer work that involves interacting with others. For example, helping people sign in for the Terry Fox Run and working with younger karate students in their karate class.
-
-
Helping others
I enjoy volunteering at junior karate classes because I like helping the younger karate students learn and improve their techniques.
VIA Character Strengths
Challenges
Prudence
I feel that depending on the scenario, I may not be the most cautious. Although, I tend to not make decisions on a whim but rather consult my options. I believe that it depends on the scenario and the decision for me to really be determined as prudent or not.
-
For course selection, I carefully made my decision by watching almost all of the videos on the course content as well as I went to the course selection science event so that I was sure about the science that I wanted to take.
Zest
I think that although I live with excitement, I do not tend to show my excitement in certain settings. For example, when I learn something interesting, instead of verbally expressing my interesting, I may just smile and ask questions.
Forgiveness
Depending on the situation, I can quick or slow to forgive. For example, when a friend asked me if I was spending more time with them because I had issues, I did not forgive them quickly.
Motivations
Innovation
I love thinking of different ways to complete typical tasks such as finding better methods for shoveling the snow off of my driveway.
I am motivated by innovating new products such as during music class, when we developed and created new instruments.
Strengths
Creativity
I find that creative writing comes naturally for me. I can easily write short stories and proses such as the ones I write during English class and for Perennial.
-
Love
As mentioned by the test, I enjoy meeting new people and I am able to sense what other people are feeling
-
I can often sense what others are feeling and act upon their emotion. For example, when my friend broke her finger, I was able to easily comfort her and then laugh with her when she felt better.
-
Perseverance
Even when I feel stuck when completing projects, I normally do not feel extremely stress and I am good at continuing my work by working out my problems in a logical manner.
Multiple Intelligence
Challenges
Musicality
As noted by the test, I do not use songs or rhythms to memorize content.
-
Although I consider myself to be musical to some extent, I am not an extremely musical person. I have trouble with applying dynamics and sight reading ledger lines while playing the cello.
Logic and Math
I thought that it was interesting that this test said that I was challenged in logic and math because I believe that I am strong in logic and math. This is shown through my strong knowledge and application of math and logic in math class and computer engineering,

-
Motivations
-
Interacting with others
I enjoy working on group projects with my peers as well as working individually. For example, I really enjoyed creating a modified game with my group in gym class. I think that working with others made the project more enjoyable.
-
-
Strengths
Language
Just like the test said, I am strong in areas surrounding literature such as creative writing. Furthermore, this strength reflects my role as junior editor in the school's literary and arts journal, Perennial.
-
For my next test, I will try using the language focused learning technique recommended by the test, reading notes out loud.
-
Logic
This year, I am taking computer engineering because last year, when I took computer studies, I found that I liked coding programs that reflected logical solutions. Since I enjoyed using logic to code, I developed a strength for using logic.
-
Body Movement
When studying content for a test or exam, I sometimes use movements to help me remember vocabulary or key concepts. This is how I apply my strength in body movement in my academic social setting.
Myers-Briggs
Challenges
-
Stubborn
I do not believe that I am stubborn because I am open to new ideas and flexible with my own. For example, when creating a modified game for gym class with my group, I made sure that everyone inputted their ideas and opinions so that we could incorporate them or versions of them into the game.
-
Strengths
Strong-Willed
I am not afraid to work towards difficult goals such as balancing multiple activities in order to complete Duke of Edinburgh silver.
Strategic Thinker
Before my cross country races, I strategically walk the trail and construct a rough plan of when I will run faster or slower in order to make a good time. In my rough plan, I also include the most effective way to approach and run up difficult areas such as steep hills from techniques that I have seen runners from other categories use. This shows how I apply my strength in strategic thinking before my races.
In my karate classes, I build my strategic thinking through quicking developing strategies to win my sparring matches. While developing the strategies, I practice considering information such as the karate techniques that I know and areas that my sparring partner has left unguarded.
Efficient
I apply my strength in efficiency to my role as junior editor of perennial. As the due date of the final draft approaches, I use this strength of mine to help make efficient plans to complete all of the work needed for the draft.
I am very efficient with class time given to complete projects or worksheets. I act on the fact that I rather have assignments completed in class than have more homework.
