FMP intial idea 1 - Short Film
Inspiration
visual or technical aspects
‘Wake up’- short film
https://www.shortoftheweek.com/2020/01/25/wake-up/
Edward Scissorhands
Rouge from x-men franchise
the story
Introvert being a strength video – BBC Facebook video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1Y4Z0oh1GE
Allergic to sunlight- find video on Facebook- under saved videos
Specific shot ideas
Low shot
person kneeing down to reach down to the floor
Close-ups of hands pick up something, camera almost rested on her lower arm- maybe a bit to the side
focus pulling- get all the textures of her gloved fingers and grass
front close up
use her 'sleeve-paws' to bring the top hoodie up with just under/over her nose
Stokes the arm of the hoodie she has on, camera behind her, turning around her
(ask bri if i can test this concept out on her)
Potential title of short film
'over-sized black hoodie'
‘Comfort blanket’
‘Comfort’
‘Comfort zone’
Experimental research to improve idea
experiment with the focus in and out like heart beat so add sound effect of heart beat and soft violin screeching to fade out to either a complete stop(happy)or being overwhelmed
(test how to film with a mirror) - front hallway location with mirror, radiator under it
front hallway (thin with wallpaper walls-idealistically Victorian style) with staircase, mirror next to door, side-table under mirror, coat-stand behind her seen in the mirror
Visual storytelling
Someone who can't touch, wears long glasses and over-sized black hoodie
someone who this 'comfort clothing' to step outside
“confident” making it more clear or tarnishing the poetic value of the piece which has need dialogue up still now
actions
Stiffs the hoodie, smiles, dances with hoddie - ballroom music starts
the end of the film is her jumping awake from her 'daydream'
panic for a sec, look around herself, looks back into the mirror with a look of recognition and then resignation
readjust shoulder strap, pick up coffee holding at 90 degree angle to her body, (coat over her bent arm) and walks out the door
ending
could possible stand instead in a waiting room or a reception of office building, after ‘waking up’, waiting for her imminent job interview
or just a toilet then show her going to work or having a job interview
earphones in girls ear- blurred out background- she touch, tap, and softly scratching the earphones -record sound separately - make it feel you are her- the echo of the music - repeat with chunky black headphones -gaming ones you can borrow
See her own reflection in a billboard, frightened, her flinches back
Reflection into car as she walk past
Visual look of character
before-dream
her hair in a messy bun with lots of cute fly-aways
reminiscent to cute kichty photos on social media
after-dream
dark grey suit with pencil skirt
hair in a smart bun
smart black glasses
borrow dad's reading glasses

Message/meaning of short film
The meaning of be removed from what is now understood to be, by the audience, a dream is that the protagonist is 'shutting out her introvert side' to have the courage and the willpower to work, place where only extrovert succeed
(find video about introverts and how the world is set up to rewards extroverts)
I came up with the concept from a couple of ‘video articles’ I watch a few before start the FMP with in turn inspired me to create a short film compining the issues of the modern world; I’ve linked the videos down below. Such as the inherit discrimation of introverts
ISuch as society’s inherent discrimination of introverts as being dysfunctional and abnormal. Furthermore the world works on a ‘extrovert system’ with rewards them for being social all the time and to not be is to come off as loner or ‘grumpy hermit’ rather than a person prefer to spend a period of time alone.
