Alveoli Physiology
tiny, balloon-shaped air sacs sit at the very end of the respiratory tree and are arranged in clusters throughout the lungs

Gas Laws
Boyle's Law
Volume increases, pressure decreases; volume decreases, pressure increases
Henry's Law
At a given temperature, the solubility of a gas in a liquid is dependent upon the partial pressure of the gas in the air and the solubility coefficient of the gas in the liquid.
Partial Pressure
The pressure that would be exerted by one of the gases in a mixture if it occupied the same volume on it's own.
Fall in atmospheric pressure at higher altitude decreases the partial pressure of inspired oxygen hence the driving pressure for gas exchange in the lungs
