Group: 2nd generation sulfonylureas
Mechanism of action
Promote insulin secretion by the pancreas
May also increase tissue response to insulin
Contraindications
During stress conditions such as trauma, severe infection or trauma an surgery
In the present of liver disease or frank jaundice or kidney disease
Diabetes precoma or coma
If you are being treated with bosentan i you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage

Indications
Is used an adjunct to proper diet exercise and the weight reduction.
Lowers blood glucose in adults patients with type II diabetes mellitus.
Route
Orally, maximum dailly dose is 20ml. Tablets should be taken during or immediately after meals.
effects on kidneys
Glyburide use should be avoided in patients with severe kidney impairment as defined by a GFR of less than 60 mL/min (CKD stage 3 and below). Because 50 percent of the glyburide is excreted by the kidneys, the drug can build up in people with CKD, causing low blood sugar levels
nursing consideration
Give drug before breakfast. If severe GI upset occurs, dose may be divided and given before meals.
Monitor urine or serum glucose levels frequently to determine drug effectiveness and dosage.
Monitor dosage carefully if switching to or from Glynase.
WARNING: Transfer to insulin therapy during periods of high stress (eg, infections, surgery, trauma).
WARNING: Use IV glucose if severe hypoglycemia occurs as a result of overdose
