After Pre-assessment
the 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic, of which 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels and 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the the topic and need to be tested further for special needs
The teacher will sit with these children in a circle and pass out a reader to everyone to read together. If the students are having trouble focusing/reading/fidgeting, the teacher can instead display and read to the book to the group.
Using flashcards that display both negative effects of pollution and activities that can fight pollution, the teacher will ask questions to test comprehension and to elicit ideas to fight pollution. Extra verbal descriptions will be included for students who can't see the flashcards.

In Whole Class Mode, students will be asked to raise their hands to answer questions. The teacher will ask for examples of pollution (land, water, air, etc.) and example activities to fight pollution.
When the topic is reviewed, the pre-assessment will be performed again to see if any students need to be moved into different groups.
If there's time, the pre-assessment or a variation of it can be repeated again at the end of the lesson instead.
If one or two students are having trouble with having their own reader, the teaching assistant will step away from the red and orange groups to read with them directly. This will also take place in the case of a student with vision impairment. While the teacher moves on to the next step. Both education team members will periodically check in with the orange and red groups to make sure everything is going smoothly.

the 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills
These students will be put into pairs and given a reader with information about what we can do to help fight pollution. They will read the book together. The teaching assistant will monitor.

Students with vision impairment can listen to a recording of the book made by the teacher. The teacher will add information missing from the text if pictures in the book are adding information. The partner without impairment can read the book and listen along with their partner.
5 students who answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly
These students will write in their notebooks. The topic will be things we can do (or avoid doing) to help the environment. They will need to have at least two suggestions and why they will help. The teaching assistant will monitor.
After completing their writing assignment, they will share what they've written with others in the red and orange groups.
After sharing notebooks with at least three other students, they can add more ideas to their notebooks.
