The Persons Case established the right of women to be designated into the Senate. In 1928, women were not considered people by the Supreme court of Canada which is why the ‘Famous Five’ started the person’s case. The Famous Five is a group of women from Alberta named Emily Murphy, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, and Irene Parlby. (David, Cruickshank) The Persons Case allowed women into the Senate and this allowed them to work for the House of Commons. After this case women were considered people and were allowed all rights. The case is important as its established how the Canadian Constitution is interpreted and changed in order for society to believe everyone no matter what gender was a person.
