The program supports Australian over the age of 65
with complex care needs to live independently in their own homes.It is funded by the Australian Government as designated under the:
- Aged Care Act 1997
- Aged Care (Transitional Provisions) Act 1997 to provide:
- Short-term and flexible care through Commonwealth Home Support Program
- Entry-Level Support at Home with a Home Care Package
- Complex Support at Home with a higher level package
- Residential Aged Care
Registration is done via call centre, in person assessor or via website referral

Home Care Packages
Home Care Package (HCP) Level / Government Subsidy / Basic Daily and Fortnightly Fees
- Level 1 / $8,800 per annum / $9.52 daily fee / $133.28 per fortnight
- Level 2 / $15,500 per annum / $10.07 daily fee / $140.98 per fortnight
- Level 3 / $33,700 per annum / $10.35 daily fee / $144.90 per fortnight
- Level 4 / $51,100 per annum / $10.63 daily fee / $148.82 per fortnight
Additionally there can be Income-tested care fees and fees for additional care and services that wouldn't otherwise be covered by your Home Care Package
Changing Providers
If applicant at future point wishes to change provider, they must first check their terms and agreements with existing provider, regarding notice periods and exit fees, then agree on end date.
It’s best to notify them in writing, preferably by email.
To whom it may concern, I am writing to advise you that I am changing care providers. I wish my final services to be delivered on[insert date]. My new services will be delivered by [insert provider] and any unspent funds need to be directed to them. Regards, [your name]
Applicant or Careabout Advocate when onsite - contacts MAC to reactivate the referral code for a new home care agreement

Complaints Processes
It’s best to start by raising your concern directly with the person involved. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that, you can speak with your case manager or any other manager at your provider.
If you want help to raise a concern or if your aren’t happy with the provider’s response, contact the National Aged Care Advocacy Line on 1800 700 600
If you have a concern or complaint that you have not been able to resolve by talking with your service provider, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (the Commission) can support you, with information and options, to resolve your concern with the service provider.More Information from Aged Care Quality and Safety Website
