This is the first time students have encountered number patterns. It is important that students see that patterns exist in counting and operations in number. In later grades, students will be required to generalize the patterns they see and it supports them in developing algebraic thinking

In Grade 2, all number patterns begin at the first multiple of the number
e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, ...
2, 4, 6, 8, ...
10, 20, 30, 40, 50, ...
