Cardiovascular System
Cardiac Cycle
-
-
- Blood flows from higher to lower pressure
- Contraction increases the pressure
- AV valves open when atrial pressures are higher than ventricular pressures
- Semilunar valves open when ventricular pressures are higher than aortic pressures
Phase 1: Atrial depolarization/contraction - causes the pressure within the atria to increase
Phase 2: Isovolumetric contraction - No blood is ejected and ventricular volume is unchanged
Phase 3: Rapid ejection - Blood is ejected out of the ventricles
Phase 4: Reduced Ejection
Phase 5: Isovolumetric relaxation
