Society/Government/Higher Power
Books
illegal
they are burned, why?, because the government said so. The government is trying to get rid of controversy and conflict by forcing books to be burned, no opinions or origional thoughts.
pg 1-2
have too much controversey/opinions
people would form opinions with books, and this is bad in the eyes of the governement. We can't have a multi media that allows this.
pg 57
many people have alreday read them
they become outlaws, because books are illegal and they want to keep them. The government wants to get rid of the people who want to read more books, so they don't effect others.
pg 143
there were professers
pg 70, 143
Montag
doesn't see anything wrong with being a fireman until after clarisse. Clarisse is at the beggining of the book, because she instigates montags feelings on books and life as he lives it.
he calls in "sick" to get away from being a fireman for a while while he figures out what he thinks. He is questionsing how far this censorship goes, maybe it goes back to the governments requests to have books burned.
Beatty said he understood what montag was going through and every fireman does. This opens up a theory that beatty also did what montag did but when he made it out alive he came back. All of the firemen questioned the society they lived in, this made the government do something to them to keep them fireman, or make them firemen.
pg 51
Clarisse
killed by car
"we've been watching her"
this describes survelance, i don't believe done by beatty himelf, more like he's partnering wih the government to watch every citizen but keep close eye on the "insane" ones.
pg 57
pg 45
Societys' way of covering up her death because she is too different, with thought.
"insane"
pg 5
She is told by her uncle that she is insane. He knows the world and knows what she will be tagged as, so he teaches her to be proud of being different
Beatty
not afraid of death
pg 116
He's not afraid because it is hard for him to be alice while knowing controversies, books, and if he really was the same as montag responsible for a death. He feels guilty and burdened by government secrets. He is eady to die, i guess.
literature knowledge
no one questioned the fact that beatty had exetensive memorization of illegal books, and stories that are considered controversal. I think people who hear this and donothing are conditioned to do nothing by beatty or the government and to just ignore it and not retain it.
insists books be burned
pg 56
He is beign forced by the govefnment/higher power to burn books. Beatty doing this with knowledge of books gives the governement assurance they have control
pg 52
says "we've been watching her (clarisse)".
associated with higher power? (government). He could have had a run in with them when like he said was the same as montag so maybe the governemtn after covering up his death he came back and they had to do somtething.
pg 57
Mildred
seashells
Mildred could have been brainwashed by whatever the raido her eaerbuds were connected to were saying. I think the governemnt controls all media including what is brodcasted on the radio channels. The government want to brainwash her.
<-
pg 10
attempted suicide
pg 11
forgot, i think the seashells made her forget or something the "doctors" did when she was getting her stomach pumped. The fact that they would even want her to forget is the governments doing. It is crucial that mildred stays alive for montag.
pg 17
This is never explained why she did this. I am so confused. All i can think is she either was thinking about how her life is nothing but consuming entertainment, or something toold her to, like the parlor or radio in the seashells.
Entertainment
radio
The radio is controlled, like all other media, by the governement. They want to make sure they have complete control over what their citizens consume.
pg 10,30,51,52,75...
multiple tvs
The consumerism of mildred (who represents model citizen of this society) is so extreme she requests more and more televisions for her parlor. The government is just trying to stuff people with entertainment so thye will think nothing else.
