Mechanism of action
Inhibit reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys thus reducing blood sugar
Indication
Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Patients failing with metformin monotherapy
Dose
Canagliflozin: 100mg-300mg/d
Dapagliflozin: 5-10mg/d
Empagliflozin: 10-25mg/d
Storage conditions
Keep in cool,dry area
Store medication in original packaging or container
Contraindications
Type 1 diabetes
Severe renal impairment
Diabetic ketoacidosis
End stage reanl disease
Patients on dialysis
Side effects
Hypotension
Hyperkalemia
Polyuria
Genital infections
Increased hematocrit
Repeated urinary tract infections
Effect on kidneys
T2DM and CKD:Sglt2 have a decreased glucose lowering effect compare to patients without CKD.
