Definition
it is a Master gland because it produces hormones that controls other glands and many body functions.
Causes
unknown but related to pituitary tumours, low or decreased growth hormone.

Pathophysiology
The anterior pituitary receives stimulatory signals from the hypothalamus.
It in turn produces other stimulating hormones to be secreted into the systemic circulation.
These then exert their effects on various target tissues.
