Temptation

See, we need to get some things straight about temptation.
- It's not a sin. Jesus was tempted. The act of being tempted is not a sin. Only giving in to temptation is a sin.
- It's the only trick that the devil has up his sleeve. The devil cannot force you to sin. He cannot actually make you do something you do not want to do. In fact, he doesn't even have access to your thoughts.
- The greatest thing about it? If you are a person who has faith in Jesus and believes that he died to completely take away all of your sins...then all of the power in temptation is taken away
Think about that. If the devil's only trick is tempting you, and the power of temptation is taken away through Jesus than the devil is left powerless over your life.
So if the power of temptation is gone then how come we still give in to temptation and sin all the time?

I want to bring up a quote that we looked at last week because it applies to temptation as well as anxiety.

If any of you in the room have faced temptation, and you probably all have, then most likely what you find most difficult about it is not giving into it and then feeling bad that you did later.
Tonight we're going to be talking about exactly what it looks like for God to give us a way out and then some really practical things that we're called to do to overcome temptation
Because of his great love for his children, God does not allow temptations to be so great that they overcome us. Instead, Christians sin because they do not search for a way out
So let's unpack some of those things. I want to end tonight by going through some of the ways that we can prepare for temptation before it comes our way...because the hard thing about temptation is that usually when we're in the middle of it, we don't even want to overcome it. Usually we want to give in.
If you give in. Try not to be so hard on yourself. Confess your sin to God. Ask for forgiveness. Run to Jesus. He is faithful to forgive you every single time you ask. There is nothing too big for him to forgive. Run to your Father.
