- - - - Humans have been fascinated with the flight of birds and have been interested in aerodynamics and flying for thousands of years. Designing a device that allows flight has only been realized over the past hundred years. This was just realised as mankind had more of a gradual understanding of physics of force and objects in motion.
        
        Leonardo da Vinci, the Montgolfier brothers, Otto Lilienthal, and Orville and Wilbur Wright were engineers which contributed creations and this helped with the dream of flight.
  - - - The first successful flight of a hot air balloon occurred in 1783.
        
        In 1880 the orthinopter was redesigned into a form of glider and Otto Lilienthal made over 2000 well-documented glider flights. These were published in magazines and newspapers and the possibility of flight was viewed as achievable.
        
        Probably the biggest achievement in the quest to fly occurred in 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, when Orville and Wilbur Wright successfully demonstrated the first powered sustained flight. It lasted 12 seconds and set the groundwork for the design of the planes we have today
        
        As aircraft design was advanced in the following decades seeing the development of turbo-powered engines, reciprocating piston engines and jet engines as propulsion systems.
        
        Advancements in flying were due to the eventual understanding of flight principles dealing with forces and objects in motion.

        Objects in motion tend to stay in motion and objects at rest tend to stay at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
