Are the people of the world state slaves?

"When you hear about slavery for 400 years,” he said. “For 400 years? That sounds like a choice. You was there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all. It’s like we’re mentally in prison" - Kanye West

"That new saint, than whom nothing nothing purer or more brave was ever led by into conflict and death, — the new saint awaiting his martyrdom, and who, if he shall suffer, will make the gallows glorious like the cross."- Ralph Emerson, speaking about John Brown

Imagery

Allusion

Look up some of the character's names and where they come from

Consider the names of the processes they use. Most are based off of real scientists or important industrial figures.

Metaphors

Huxley uses a couple of different metaphors to describe things, but he consistently describes Bokanvosky twins with insect metaphors. Importantly, none of our main characters ever get these kind of metaphors

The games

Think about how Huxley uses imagery to endear the audience to certain characters and create fear or disgust in others.

Lenina in particular is objectified multiple times. Bernard even makes a point of stressing that she objectifies herself. The audience is meant to see this as horrible, but Huxley's audience was historically male and many of his readers may have enjoyed his description of her.

Think about Huxley uses imagery to dehumanise people. This particularly occurs during the novels ending. The crowd, Henry, Lenina, and even John act more and more like animals until a violent whipping turns into a drug-fuelled orgy. The imagery makes this seem like a chaotic event that occurs absent any choice or reason. The people act like animals instead of humans.
