Chapter 25
History of Life on Earth
-
Fossil Records
The records are incomplete, many things were prrobably not fossilised due to there having to be specific conditions for it to happen
only hard material can fossilize, soft things could not (or anything jelly like) also we probably have not discovered every fossil out there since most have been moved, destroyed, or flipped.
fossils are radiometrically dated by looking at the isotope break down, higher number of neutrons decay and then give off isotopes. Carbon dating is also another dating, carbon 12 and 14 are radioactive so they compare the carbon in living organsims to dead ones and see how much carbon 14 is in it. However carbon recycles so there may be old carbon is new ones therefore the findings being inaccurate

Mass Extinctions
Mass Extinction 3-(Permian)-252 million years ago-96% of life was wipe out, an volcanic eruption cause carbon levels to rise
-
-
Mass Extinction 5- (Cretaceous)-66 million years ago believed to have been a meteor that hit the Earth and caused many things to go extinct (including dinosaurs)
-
Mass Extinction 6-Underway- humans are ruining the Earth, causing habitat loss, bring invasive species, and making it lead to climate change

Tree of Life
-
Phlogeny
family tree, Evolutionary background We can use phylogeny to see if the species are Homo or Ana
-
-
-
Analogy
not related, but have similar structures
All living creatures are divided into Domain,k Kingdom, Phylum,Class,Order,Families,Genus, and Species
Clades
-
-
Monophyletic
all in the same group, all having the same common ancestor
Polyphyletic
related, but does not include it most common ancestor
