Climate Factors
Latitude
Description: Latitude describes how far north or south a place is from the equator. It is measured in degrees. The places closest to the equator receive more concentrated energy from the sun.

Ecuador is a great example for latitude because it is right on top of the equator. It is affected by the heat that comes with living close to the equator.

Air Masses/Wind
Image:
Description: All warm air comes from the equator. All cold air comes from the poles. All get mixed up because the earth is spinning everyday cold and warm air meet in the battle of the AIR MASSES!!!!!!!!!! When cold and warm air meet....
Four main source regions of air masses are: Cold- originate in Polar regions, Warm- originate in tropical or subtropical regions, Moist- form over oceans or maritime areas, Dry- form over land surfaces or continental surfaces.
-
Elevation
Description: Elevation affects local climate. As elevation increases, temps become cooler. This has to do with air density, or how close or far apart air molecules are from each other.
Image:
An example of an elevated place is the base camp of mount Everest because it is above ground and the air is also thinner up there.
-
Relief
Description:Geographers use the term relief to describe the difference in height between the highest point and the lowest point in an area.

Ocean Currents
Description: Oceans make up about 70% of earth's surface. Within the oceans are massive flows of water called ocean currents.

Bodies of Water
Description: Bodies of water take a long time to heat up or cool down compared to the land around them. This helps keep the temperatures around them nearby from becoming too extreme.

Toronto is a good example of being next to a large body of water because it is right next to a lake which helps Toronto always stay cooler because of the cold water that is being stored in the lake.
