Monsters INC. and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
Habit #6: Synergize
What does Sulley look at when he needs to be re-energized?
When Sulley needs to be re-energized, he looks at the photo boo drew for him
Habit #2: Begin with the end in mind
In the beginning of part one of Monsters Inc, Mike and Sulley have one goal, what is it?
At the beginning of the film, Mike and Sulley's goal is to be the top scarer at Monsters Inc.
What happens to cause this goal to change?
This goal changes, for Sulley specifically, when Boo escapes into Monsters Inc. on Sulley's back. After this happens, Sulley grows and attachment and bond with her, which ultimately changes his goal at Monsters Inc.

Habit #1: Proactive
Mike is in a TV commercial; what is the expected reaction after watching the commercial? How does Mike respond to this commercial?
The expected reaction of the commercial for the general public is to promote and inspire people to scare to gain more energy for their city. The expected reaction of the commercial for Mike is that he would be upset that his only appearance in the commercial ended up being covered by the factory's logo. However, Mike was very excited about even being on TV in the commercial and didn't seem to even notice the fact that he was covered at the end.
How does the presence of Randall change Mike and make him react?
The presence of Randall puts Mike really on edge and seems to make him significantly more competitive when it comes to being the top scarer in the company.
What specifically does it cause him to do?
The presence of Randall first makes Mike jump and fall back, then proceeds to make Mike challenge Randall to a competition to see who will become the top scarer first.
Prior to the beginning the work day, how does Sulley show he is being proactive?
Prior to the work day, Sulley is shown practicing his scaring techniques, as well as what he should do in different scaring situations in the case something doesn't go as expected, or there are more kids than thought to be.
What causes Sulley to change from being proactive to reactive?
Sulley becomes reactive when he is in the door area alone to do paperwork for Mike and sees a random door, then decides to go in to bring his scare meter up. Sulley not thinking of any reprocautions that may happen if he were to go into the room
Why is this type of behaviour "not worth it"?
This type of behaviour isn't worth it because it shows how reactive Mike can be, and he doesn't plan out what will actually happen or seem to have their best interest in mind; only to beat Randall
How does Randall show example of defective actions of habit #1?
Randall shows examples of defective actions by being very reactive when it comes to Mike and Sulley. He also seems to play the victim during the course of the movie and in a way acting like Sulley had everything handed to him. As well as when it comes to Sulley he seems to be very jealous of him and what he's accomplished within the company
During the "kid-tastrophe" explain what specific actions are displayed by Mike and Sulley to show they are not being proactive
During the kid-tastrophe, the main thing that really showed me how not proactive they were being by not returning Boo back to her as soon as Sulley realised she escaped, then bringing her to the sushi restaurant and causing a great commotion which caused the whole city to know there was a human child on the loose
At the end of the movie, what happens to show us Mike's real attitude in life is one of being proactive?
At the end of the movie, we can see Mike's real attitude when he goes into Boo's room knowing that Randall would be coming to try and steal her. This showed him taking responsibility for their actions by putting himself in harms way in order to get Boo back home rather than prolonging the situation and before she got hurt
Habit #5: Seek first to understand, then be understood
During the simulation when Sulley scares for practice, what allows him to understand "Boo's" feelings?
Sulley understands Boo's feelings when she screams and runs away from him to hide. He also sees her feelings when he sees the rewinds of him scaring for demonstration and sees Boo's face in the corner of the screen and her reaction.
Why does is upset Sulley so much to finally return Boo to her home?
This upsets Sulley so much because he would not be able to see her again once they shredded her door. After the big bond they created in these few days, not being able to see her again made him really sad.
Habit #4: Think win-win
What major obstacle happens to Mike and Sulley to destroy and idea or chance of win-win?
This chance of win-win is ruined when Sulley goes into a leftover door after hours when he is supposed to be doing Mike's paperwork for him. Instead he was highly tempted to go in and get those extra scare points. Once the plan goes off-rails in the child's room, Sulley leaves unaware that the child escaped into the warehouse on his back.
When Mike returns to Monsters, Inc. factory, as Sulley is being beat up by Randall, how does he reason his behaviour in the Himalayas and turn the situation into one of win-win?
Mike reasons his behaviour in the Himalayas by telling Sulley that he was mad about the situation and needed time to think and cool down. He turns the situations into a win-win when he is mad thinking Sulley isn't listening or taking him seriously so he throws a snowball in hopes of hitting Sulley but misses and hits Randall. This mistake allowed Sulley to see where Randall was quick enough to get him off his back, knock him out, and escape.
When Mike first sees any door, how is his win-win idea only short term?
He sees this as a win-win because the doors will help them to be the top scarer, but also gain energy to power the city. This is only short term because it won't be enough to power the city for long as mentioned in the film, kids are getting harder and harder to scare. As well as this, being the top scarer isn't a permanent thing as anyone could beat it at any time
Habit #3: Put First Things First
When Sulley skis down the mountain what has become his main priority?
When skiing down the mountain, Sulley's main priority at the moment has become to get back to Monsters Inc to save Boo from Randall, then return her home safe
When Sulley and Mike return to Monsters Inc after the first night of "escape" what does Sulley do to show where his priority is?
On the first night of the escape, Sulley's priority was to not ruin his image at the company, he shows that this is his priority by dressing up Boo as a monster so as to hide her better and then asks Mike for help to return her back home
Habit #7: Sharpen the saw
Why is your heart one of the most important aspects of sharpening the saw?
It is one of the most important aspects because just like the body, it needs a constant flow of care and nourishment. Without this we cannot grow or get better.
